JazLyte's News

Posted by JazLyte - April 12th, 2008

Last night I watched a movie called Tekkonkinkreet. Whe I saw the DVD cover and screenshots, I thought to myself, what the hell were these people thinking...Until I saw it in motion, then I was like, "SO THAT'S WHAT THEY WERE THINKING...." Not only did the animation amaze me, but the story left me breathless. When people say things like spectacular, or best anime of all time, usually I can't agree, but this movie was crack. Please, if you like animation, even if you hate anime, you MUST see this movie, it will astound you. There is no genre for this movie, you'll lose yourself and the whole analogy about the good and evil within human beings personified in surrogate brothers, Black and White shows the complexity of human existance in the best possible way. If you're observant, you'll see what I mean.

It really inspired me for Nightgun to make my message stronger, and almost makes me want to rewrite it. My main goal with Nightgun since my recent revalation is to make a story that approaches my views of the subject of God, and how it relates to mankind as a whole. To spread the word that regardless what faith you follow, we're all the same blood, and to encourage people to quit thinking that they know everything, mankind's biggest flaw. Jesus being the son of God doesn't make Mohammed evil, and doesn't change the fact that you can learn something new from anybody, whether they me Muslim, Jewish, atheist, whatever. Nightgun as a series will talk about figures of faith and religion very openly, so I hope you guys don't have a problem with that.

Anyway, I've been practicing my animation skills vigorously, and my storywriting skills, because I want for this to be my best work yet. I hope you guys have an open mind, and are treating people of other races and faiths with love and respect based on their character and how much they look like you. Peace.

REVELATIONS ABOUT ANIMATION
I've had it with anime. Though it is good for detail and looks really cool standing still, I would rather have living, breathing, fighting characters in my movies than pretty but cold emotionless ones like many anime style animations. Don't get me wrong, I love Afro Samurai, Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop, but I would rather use less shading detail on living characters and focus that on killer sceneries and lighting effects. I pull my hair out watching how still and boring the animation was in the talking scene of my last movie. However, the fight was probably my best work yet and had a ton of animation, so I know I can do it. I'm just committing myself to having more hardcore frame-by-frame and less boring prettyness.

REVELATIONS ABOUT STORY WRITING
With lots of studying in my hiatus from animating, I also got a chance to reflect on what little imagination and effort I've put into my writing. People seem to enjoy the realistic voice-acting, but I'm talking about the plot and mythology behind my movies. I can't go on with NightGun's story the way it is. I basically just mixed Devil May Cry, Power Rangers, and X-Men, threw in black people and anime-tized it and called it my own with the pilot. I've been praying for months now for a better story and I've finally got one. (And yes, I believe God's there, I am a shameless Jesus freak) I want more than anything to make a relatively serious story that grips people and is ORIGINAL. I will still do comedy, but probably on a separate basis. I've learned that the more genres you force into a production, the more it will fall short on each.

THE FUTURE OF NIGHTGUN AND OTHER THOUGHTS...
I'm sick of being one of Newgrounds' average animators. I'm ready for my top spot now and I'll do what it takes to get it. The few fans I have, I hope will stick with me on my changes. I'm working on a script for a 30-minute feature with the world of NightGun called NightGun: "Utopia" that from the looks of the script and storyboards, I'll probably release in 3 parts. Been working on concept art and ideas viciously, and production will start hopefully May if I've finished the commercial for my friend's business.

Posted some concept art below that will be how the characters will be drawn in the cartoon, simplistic, but it will have tons of animation, more than I ever have before. Also, Jazz and Blues will be referred to for the first time in the Neotropolis story by their birth names, JAKAL AND BRYCE. (See the character profiles in the preloader of 'Magic Crack Rocks'.) Peace.

Anybody hear about that or see it on AOL news? I'm prayin' that boy lands in the ocean somewhere. NASA said it lost power, is out of control and is orbiting Earth being pulled in by gravity right now. It's supposed to hit sometime at the end of February or early March. They really need to just get a few stealth jets, find it, and blow it to smitherines. I wish I had the link to show you guys, but you can look it up on Google. Lazy :P

Still working on my friend's animated commercial for his business when I get the chance, and about 25% of NightGun [Ep.II] which is my second animated priority. Holla

Urbanlyte's New Movie Released!

Wuzup? Well, I know I been pretty busy lately and had hardly NO time to animate, but in my free time, I've been working on a new movie called Aqueon Nights that revolves around a convicted killer who finds out what hell really is, and that his world is nothing beyond ignorant sheep on a truck to the slaughterhouse. I'll be starting on it in exactly 5 days, after I finish my first animated TV commercial for a local buniess (CHYEAH BOYEE!!!) so keep your eyes peeled for the alpha. Christmas vacation's gonna give me tons of time to work on it. Peace!
The series will be an Action/Drama, and the first will be 10 minutes. If it's a success, I'll be on part 2 RIGHT AWAY. Peace.

I've finally reached a decision for what I'm going to do with DevilSlayer. For one, I've decided to continue the series under the DevilSlayer name, considering that there's already DevilSlayer I, II, & III. Plus it'd be cool to get my own collection, right? So why not go ahead and finish what I started? Instead of what I originally intended (calling the new gig NightClub), I've decided to release it as DevilSlayer IV: NightGun, and it will be a mini-series with about 5 episodes, that will be 5-7 minutes each. So when you see a set of movies coming thru the portal next year under the name DS-IV: NightGun.

Now a look into the story:
DS-IV will pick up right after DS-III, with the crew taking down another demon in the streets of Neotropolis, however, this time they go too far. Fans of DevilSlayer know that demons are a protected species by Neo's idiot human citizens, but how far would they go to keep the city's angelically inclined demi-humans under control? If you thought they wouldn't create a second Holocaust, you'd be wrong. Now you get to see what CRiSIS Corporation, the city's weapons/security conglomerate is truly capable of, heading up the crusade. Now Jazz, Kiara, Blues and Kayle are on the run.
They're done fighting in the shadows, they're taking the war to the streets with new allies, and even more new enemies!

Check back for updates each month, I hope to have the whole slew done by this time next year, so it may be awhile before you see anything new from me, but I'll keep ya posted! Peace.

Ehh....I was thinkin about something last night, and had an epiphany which I'm not about to explain because I'm lazy. Instead Imma get to the point, I may make NightClub one long movie instead of a series of shorts...Still deciding....

*Ok, first off, notice that the NightClub cartoon I sent in first has been CHANGED TO A PROLOGUE! Therefore, the NEXT CARTOON is Episode I.*

It's going pretty smoothly considering how busy I've been, man. Progress: 20%

Here's a screenshot... Yes *gasp*, a white guy! Geez, will my enemies stop crying now? Asians and white peole don't have the market on Sci-Fi/Action Anime, so get off my ass just because nobody's slapped a hoe and said "n***a" yet. Enjoy :D

NightClub: Episode I Screenshots

It may not have gotten the best score on NG, but it got front page and lots of great reviews! Thusly, I will go forward! My goal is to create a great black cartoon series that doesn't involve smokin' dro, calling women bitches and completely free of the phrase "n***a". OK, well, D'ante said "negro" in the first one, but that's even the last time they're gonna do that.
Nightclub is gonna be a good, mature story that I'm hoping will make people think when the plot is revealed. No kiddie stuff, man; I'm tryin' hard to keep that out. The story is an analogy that I'm hoping observant people will pick up on. I'm also trying to focus on lots of fluid animation alongside detail. The story will be one step at a time also, unlike DevilSlayer & DevilSlaler 2 which were based on a short story I wrote the year previous. There will be comedy, but not to the point where it ruins the flow. I've been analyzing other people's animations and taking notes. If there's any advice that you guys have, especially other animators, my ears are open. The first episode is a basic idea, but the story will form soon. :) Peace. One Love.
