Aight, now!

This is the type of stuff I come to Newgrounds to see, I normally don't like Medieval stuff, but the mix of comedy and action is right up my alley. The dialogue I liked a lot, it was funny and keeps your attention, also the action was fast enough to stay interesting. There's just one thing, I can see what you're going for with the drawing style, but it just needs a little tweak of refining. If you work at making the frame-by-frame animation a little smoother, I'll have a perfect 10 waiting for the next one, and a lot more people will too. Pretty sick man, I'll definately be waiting for part 4.

akoRn responds:

It's an honor to received a review from a talented animator as you are! And also, thanks for the tips, I hope I can digest all of em, and apply em in the next episode.

I'll let u know when I've finish with it.

I kinda dig it but... Needs work

It's straight, the character drawings were good, but the animation was pretty lackluster, and I think for your style that you should probably ditch the shading and focus more on body anatomy and frame by frame. The sound was pretty low-quality, and the story (or lack there of) left me really confused.

You say it's the animated version of your graphic novel or whatever, but it tells us nothing of substance about what's going on...it's sort of just stuff happening randomly. The religious persecution, okay got it. The royal angels, okay so apparently they're the guardians for some religion, but which one? It sounds catholic, but I swear I saw one of them shoot the crooked "pope". Maybe if it told us wassup in a way that's not so vague. Don't worry, I'm guilty of it myself. Hope that helps a little bit.

wiilofgod responds:

wow..man that definitely helps....you are right about most of the stuff......it was hard to show such a complex story in the short time I was given : (
my sound is always crap and I cant help it as all I have to work is my little mac book.
but thanks for the feedback man!

Aight, then.

You said I should check this out, and I did. I like it! It's got your signature style and the frantic action I like seeing from your stuff.
I don't mean to be a dick, but this still doesn't satisfy my craving for Pick Up: Act 3, though lol. The graphics were great, I love your style. You do ya damn thang like like nobody else on NG, but it was missing something I love about Pick Up: The hilarious conversations where everybody's talking at the same time and interrupting each other. This held me over for the action, but I'm still waiting. I'll be patient though, hehe. Great movie, keep it up, you're on fire this year.

Skaijo responds:

Hm, talking over each other? Hilarious conversations? You may want to check out Metal Gear Yotsuba, an animation around the same time Act 2 came out.

My next project will take place in the community I presented in This is UNMEI--mainly because I still want to work out the skills and gain the experience needed to give Act 3 some justice. The way I have Act 3 planned out--I'll need the practice. It'll be worth the wait. :D

Until then--for funny convos, MGY, might be the animation up your alley.

Nice, good message too

That was pretty sick man, loved the character drawings, and the voice acting was good too. The sound came out kind of funny at the beginning of the little "Shangri La" part, and it wasn't too intricate for it to be tweenimated, but like I say all the time... It's EFFORT, something newgrounders need more of. Good job man.

SOMNAMBULA responds:

Thanks to everybody for watching this story!

Nice job, man.

I've seen this series, and it's crack. The character drawings are well done, and the fights are really fast and frantic, which I enjoy (Unfortunately, this episode didn't have any of that). The voices also fit the characters and the story flows very well. I like your use of camera movements during action scenes, I do the same thing.
It does have it's moments though, where the animations could have been a bit fore interesting, not really sure how to put it... Like the bomb explosions were kinda wack, but it's not a small problem, I enjoyed it, and fan cartoons are rarely my thing.
I REALLY wish you hadn't done Legend of Zelda though, personally. People love this series, and you basically reivented LoZ's story into something very interesting. I realize that people tend to vote 5 automatically for fan cartoons and it looks good on your page to have all those 4.0+'s, but some of these characters (The ones that weren't created by you) you'll never be able to say are yours, and they won't really have that piece of yourself in them. You're capable of making something original, I think you should've gone with that. But regardless, you've filled a part of NG's gap where the quality action series' disappeared from, and I'm grateful for that.
Keep up the good work, man. I'm hoping to see something from your own soul in the future.

ScootLumpDude responds:

Well thank you. I appreciate the criticism. Very good constructive review. I've seen a few of your animations as well. Very well drawn and original characters. And to be honest, Zelda UO isn't my only story. I've been developing a story of my very own for the past 5 years and so far I'm happy with it. However I don't believe it'll be seen on newgrounds for a LONG time. Anyway I'm glad you like my series and I'll be sure to keep looking out for more of your work.

Nice

Not bad, man! Could have been a lot worse for a Zelda cartoon. But you applied your own visuals, sprite free, and for that, it gets much more points. You draw very well!

Unfortunately, there were these sort of common, lazy anime elements like avoiding full-body animations and drawings, always using close-ups (Which are significantly easier, but also incredibly noticeable. Trust me, I've done it tons of times in my cartoons, and people notice (But the fact that it's Zelda will probably make people not care at all)... I would also suggest that you take shading detail down just a small notch so that you won't be tempted to avoid frame-by-frame, because the best looking anime uses lots of frame-by-frame animation to bring a good flow to things. Good work.

coycoy responds:

Wow, I really wish i had more reviews like you. :) all your words I'll try to take them into consideration on my future flash projects. lol, Iv'e done frame-by-frame flash in the past, and jeez it sure takes alooooot of time to make a half decent animation. again, thanks for your kind words, and review. ^^

Sweet work man

I loved the animation, it had a very classic feel to it, and the way that certain things like the dragonfly moved was natural yet highly fluid to me. Great work on the frame by frame. Personally, the colors left a little something to be desired for me too though, and the loop (sounds like a song I heard from Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy) kinda skips at on point around the time the eagle shows up. Other than that, sweet work man.

mantis0702 responds:

Thanks, yeah there was a little hiccup with the sound. So far you're the only one to mention it. Pretty observant :) I still haven't figured out editing sound very good yet but Im learning.

You're a good animator, but not much of a comedian

The animation was very solid, I liked that part. I'll just establish that point from the beginning, you've got skill. Unfortunately, the whole premise seemed incredibly lame... I'm curious, did you even find this funny? There was NO part at all that was funny or creative about it...seriously...Also, please leave video versions for Youtube, man. Show us the actual .SWF, it's just a good look period. You're sweet at animating, but get a writer. Peace.

EnigmaCartoons responds:

Thanks YungJizz. I know it's not flashy cliched black ninjas fighing oversized horribly designed monster, but you know, Animators and artists like you give me hope that I can get better.

peace yo!

The Return Of Quality Flash

Amazing, definitely deserving of it's score, and I can only see it going up. The character designs were excellent, and the coloring was very well done. It wasn't stingy on the frame-by-frame animation either, so all-in-all the art direction was right on point. My eyes didn't peer away from the screen at any point during the flash. Also, respectable trait I've noticed about you is that you know exactly when to use lots of detail, and when to eliminate shading, extra lines (etc...), for the sake of life and animation. I really liked the little flashback's animation style too. The cartoon overall is very much a sequel to Uberkids' Revenge.

There were some things however that made me cringe a bit. For one, I seriously feel like you could take or leave the dialogue, the sound quality bit distracting with the voices, and they didn't move much while speaking. You definitely shine in times of action without words, because your stuff typically speaks for itself. I understand that you wanted to get a joke or two in though. Personally, I cried laughing when Tom fell from the balloon and hit the ground, so obviously your humor doesn't need words.

Overall, great work! I'd love to see more fast-paced frame-by-frame combat in your stuff, that's what makes your action stand out. The talking part just really distracted me from the reletively serious parts, and made it hard for me to get into it. You truly inspire me to keep animating so I can get on your level. Peace.

Zombie-Pimp responds:

thanks man, yeah the voices were pretty last ditch, I was seriously debating removing them completely, but in the end I decided it was worth the laugh, despite how rushed the animation was for that scene (besides, I couldn't let Mindchamber's voice acting go to waste). I'm glad that overall, you were still able to enjoy the flash, and I'm very happy to hear that i've inspired a fellow animator, and honoured that you consider my level as a goal for yourself.

That's wassup

Final Fantasy 12 annoyed the hell out of me, and you're right, it does play for you. What's the point in running around the enemy if you can't block or dodge or anything? Here is why I went cold turkey off of RPGs after I turned 15. Fighting games, adventure games and NBA games keep me entertained enough.

Anyway, great cartoon, man! Great graphics, well done character designs and enjoyable dialogue. Very entertaining. I wasn't expecting it as a flash about Final Fantasy, but instead turned out to be a very clever commentary about it, and funny at that. Keep it up!

Bobert-Rob responds:

Thanks, Young Jazz, I appreciate the comments. And I don't know, running around them seems to make them take longer to attack so I do it pretty much all the time. Very confusing, but that's part of what I like about that tactic. Then again, I like to pointlessly rotate the camera around while I walk... it's funny, especially when people are watching you and are like "Why are you doing that?" and there IS no reason... heh. Good times.
