Dear art god...

What exactly does it take to make the transition from kid who draws to professional? Oy.

Dear art god...

Apparently you have to suffer for it, or something like that.

....yup, i'd say so.

1. A fancy website with an email address.
2. Spend like fucking 11 years making the greatest cartoon EVER.
3. Upload it to Newgrounds and hopefully it'll be popular for a tiny bit.
4. Someone emails your fancy website email address, asking you to make an even better cartoon based on their script, for 20 bucks.
YOU ARE NOW A PROFESSIONAL.

reeeeeally now.....

My dick needs a fuck shit fuck.

D: oh werd?

When it makes you money, you are a professional.

It's made me a couple hundred bucks....over 6 years...

why a gray guy ?

damn, is it that rare that I draw pale-skinned characters?

Learn to do Cg based work, otherwise be prepared to struggle for the rest of your life.

I have a friend who went to university for animation, and now is working at a starbucks to make ends meet. If you actually have anyone pay you for your services then you can consider that a small step towards being considered a professional...

I wish things were different but I have the creeping feeling that 2d animation is going to die off in the next few years.

The only people that actually still animate in 2d seem to be those who create their own series then sell them off to a bigger network like mondo.tv whoring itself out to mtv, or Brendan Small selling his series to adult swim, to a lesser extent Frank Sudol selling his animated films to unearthed distribution.

Getting hired to do animation work is really a mixed bag and requires some sort of "in", in fact I think the "in" with someone in the industry is more important than having university diploma provided you already have the skills which you appear to have...

The days of Ralph B style productions are all but gone...

Oyyyyy...... This text wall is scaring the shit out of me. I wouldn't mind making a series for Adult Swim, but what I'm really afraid of is collaboration sometimes. I have no connections whatsoever.

turns out master aardvark is a jerk......hulalaoo forever!!

D: I AGREE

1) suck up to people you dont like
2) get a gold encrusted portfolio
3) call yourself JAZZ STUDIOS Ltd. - PROFESSIONAL ANIMATION COMPANY
4) say goodbye to your personal projects. forever.
5) you've made it! enjoy mixin it up with dreamworks, adult swim, studio 4oC and pixar!

the end

....Jesus christ Lenko stop telling me things that are probably true.... I'm hoping that there's an alternate route, maybe I'll devote my life to the internet...

Sometimes it doesn't even seem possible.

God, who are you telling -_-;;

When you start making some $$$$

Ooooh if only.

Dude, in my book you're a professional. There are not a lot of ppl who can do what you do. And besides, you've made commercials!

Thanks buddy, but I'd love to actually make rent money lol. I've never made a commercial before though, I started to, but I was just a 15 year old getting fleeced for pirated programs I could've easily gotten myself xD
