2nd Voice Audition & The Cure

The Cure for Animator Laziness!

Amateur animators, ever find yourself in that position where you've started an ambitious project but you've become bored with it? This is more the rule than the exception for me, I know that much. I love the idea of making another movie as long as my first submissions, but these days it hasn't been as easy because I'm a little impatient.

Me and my buddy Matt came up with a cure, and it's simple. Animate with other people. He wrote an article in his blog explaining it and it's advantages. Matt is the same as me wherein we start a bunch of shit and never finish it, many times it's probably because we're probably off somewhere getting fucked up at the same party. WELL, READ IT. TRY IT.This may only work if you have a laptop though :P

Make sure if you compliment the article to leave it on his page, or in the forum thread he made for it.

Xenophobe 2nd Audition

I need more voices for my new project, Xenophobe, which is close to completion and even though it's only half of the project I originally came up with (which was too big for me at 15 minutes, the rest will come later and ALL the pre-production is done, it will not be ditched). I'm adding a scene because the first story needs closure, I refuse to slap a "Part 1" or "Episode 1" on this submission when it's done. So humor me and audition for these 2 parts!

I really won't go into detail about the parts, because either you have the voice of the character or you don't and if your acting is good, that won't really help too much if you don't fit the part all. You don't have to be the exact race of the character, since I know I'm asking for two very rare things on Newgrounds, a black female and an adult black male in his 40's.

- Spiral (Spy-ral): Young black female, age 19. I don't want any really squeaky, high-pitched giddy voices (Sorry, I know you're out there though). That's really all I ask. The age is most important.

(ROLE CHOSEN, SORRY GUYS)- Percy: Middle-aged black man, age 40. I kind of picture him having an African or Jamaican accent, BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO ALL, ESPECIALLY IF YOU AREN'T GOOD AT IT. I'm taking what I can get with this one lol.

You know the drill, drop me a PM telling me you want to try out, with a sample of where your voice was used, and your email address. I email you the script with your parts highlighted, and you go for it. I LISTEN TO EVERYBODY, give it a shot.

Thanks for the plug. And I LOVE that scene where she is getting dragged....except for the audio...I think my ears bleed.... O_O

Can't wait to see the finished product!

lol don't spoil it for everybodeh

I'll try for Percy alright?

Get yo ass on AIM n***a

YYay!

I find myself that the greatest joy i have is in the brainstorming and animatic process, mainly cause those phases are fast and really open minded by default and so its easier to loosen up and get excited about it. When you are down in the trenches, its tough to stay motivated and chip away till the finish line. Havent read dirtshake's link yet but i will do so right now, im always intruiged at the concept of collaboration. Sometimes that doesnt necessarily involve literally sharing the project with someone. I've started to find that its cool to work with skype open while someone else is working on their shit. It might not even be related but just the idea of talkin to someone about animation/games while you are working keeps me plugging away. Being able to say hey take a look at this real quick and tell me what you think, gives you a chance for that on the fly feedback. Which is kinda cool.

I agree whole-heartedly. I'm the same way too when nobody else is around, I talk to people like my VA's and musicians on AIM and Skype while I animate. Also, yeah pre-production's where all that anime-style blind ambition starts at. All the ideas are rushing by and you're grabbing whatever looks pretty, then you put it together it and it gets really hard. I'm starting to think that a small idea is the best way to start, at least on a solo project anyway.

Yeah when everyone's in a room together it's soooo much easier to work on stuff. I have so much more motivation when I'm in a room with friends or whatever working on similar but different things together.

Yup, I don't know why. Showing off maybeh? :P

i have to say, i agree with everything luis said in his response. everything. not kidding here.

Nobody paid for all that shit

Pystarr? Jystarr? Hmm what does that say in the top corner? lol.

Great scene. I wish I can get someone to record Spiral's lines for u...

You're seeing shit

if you need a deep white man voice.. give me a holler. lol I love your animations!

lol I probably will

The only thing that really keeps me going is the light at the end of the tunnel. After re-watching the incremental progress of a movie for the 50th time, sitting through 5 minutes of something I've already seen, it gets pretty exhausting. Then, flash fucks up, and it takes days to figure out what's wrong. Or you have to rape your mind to figure out how to actually piece together a scene the way you want. I don't know how anyone ever finishes a movie when I think about it.

But once it's finally finished, and you get to share something that you created from nothing, that's where the joy is at. Then you look back on the time you spent creating it, and its as if it was finished all along, and you didn't spend months meticulously toiling over a timeline and key frames.

God, do I feel you. Ugh... I'm too impatient though I need to work with shorter projects.

animating while hungover = shittiest day ever. haha

I've tried it, it ain't that bad, it's just...breathing...that makes it worse X_x

You should reach Sapphire. Quite possibly the only black female on Newgrounds ever, and awesome voice-type actress!

Damn, she's really good, I think I will hit her up.

She's not the only one, there's Afrogirl too, but she's already playing Kiara :P

Two points with one e-stone. I think working with other people is a great way to get motivation up and it doesn't even have to be face to face. This animation was finished in about a month. Now, I was going for completely unrelated segments, but you could also divy a project up into background art, keyframing, colouring, etc. for a coherent animation style. Just keeping contact with other people who are working on the same project can keep you moving along. Second stone: my name is Joel and I do all kinds of voices too, the vocals of Crazy Dave were all me. If you need anything I'd be glad to help.

And by "if you need anything" I mean I'll send you my old-black-man recording tonight :D

I'm up for it.

Looks good, but don't tell me that the graphics for the entire thing. I love your movies, but this picture seems like it needs some more detal and....preportional values.

I change the shading detail dependent on the amount of frame-by-frame in the shot. This particular shot is full-fBf, so putting a TON of detail into this 3 seconds like in a talking shot is just about pointless. Good question though.
