first off, don't count on the api to eat
second, games generally perform much better than movies when it comes to the api
third, you have to generate decent traffic to earn money. a few thousand impressions really isn't that much unfortunately :(
the criteria is based on a view/click ratio. just because you generate a lot of views doesn't mean anyone is actually clicking the ad. it also depends on what ads are currently running, and what other companies are paying to promote a certain ad.
I wouldn't really bother trying to figure out the details. keep placing the api in your content and maybe one of your movies will become incredibly popular and then you'll be glad the api is there. until then, it's not hurting anything either.

I think the results are more noticeable when applied to games because they tend to have the replay value associated with it. Movies are a hard sell, though im sure theres *some* movies out there that make decent bank. I think the main thing about the api to think about is that its an investment. Alot of people get turned off by that because theyd much rather have the instant payoff. Its just a different marketing platform. Not sure what the descrepancies youre seeing between your two movies tho.
